Statuary is cast using molds and is made of cement, plaster, or resin; but sculpture can be made of almost any material or many materials from marble and bronze to feathers and hubcaps. Any method or material that adds dimension to artwork has potential value to the sculptor.Sculptors use additive and subtractive techniques to create sculptures. Additive means to bring materials together, while subtractive means to take away from the base material. Four main techniques exist in sculpting: carving, assembling, modeling, and casting.
